Born in Springfield, Missouri, Smith had a remarkable tournament career, turning professional in 1926 and going on to win numerous titles, including the Oklahoma City Open in 1928 and a total of 30 PGA Tour titles, with his major championships coming at the Masters in 1934 and 1936.Smith's post-playing career was also notable, as he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, before becoming the club pro at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan. He was also president of the PGA of America from 1952 to 1954, leaving a lasting impact on the sport.Unfortunately, Smith's life was cut short when he passed away at the age of 55 due to Hodgkin's disease. Horton David Haight (1832–1900) was a prominent figure in the Mormon community, known for his pivotal role in the early settlement and development of Utah Territory. Hailing from Moravia, New York, Haight's family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and subsequently moved to Nauvoo and later to Utah. Notably, Haight led multiple freight companies in the 1860s, overseeing the transportation of emigrants, baggage, and freight to and from Utah. He also played a key role in delaying the approach of Johnston's Army in 1857 and served as a sheriff and in the Utah territorial legislature. Later in life, Haight relocated to Oakley, Idaho, where he served as a bishop and later as president of the Cassia Stake. His significant contributions and leadership extended to his role as a county commissioner in Cassia County, Idaho. Notably, his legacy lives on in the form of his grandson, David B. Born in Alachua County, Florida, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Florida and later taught there before moving to the University of Virginia. He served as the director of the Mountain Lake Biological Station for four years before joining the United States National Museum as the Head Curator of the Department of Zoology. Throughout his career, Hobbs described a significant number of species, genera, and subgenera, greatly contributing to the understanding of crayfish biology. His extensive research led to him being affectionately referred to as "Old Man Crawfish" by his colleagues. Hobbs' legacy lives on through his invaluable contributions to the field.
