Jamala al-Baidhani (1977 – 15 December 2012) was a prominent Yemeni activist known for her unwavering dedication to advocating for the rights of women and disabled individuals. Born in Al Aeoff village in the Al Baidha region of Yemen, her life took a transformative turn at the age of seven when she was left paralyzed due to complications from meningitis. Undeterred by her physical challenges, she pursued higher education, ultimately earning a bachelor's degree in social science and becoming an integral part of Yemen's Ministry of Social Affairs.However, feeling limited in her capacity to effect change within the government, Al-Baidhani founded the Al-Tahadi Association for Disabled Females in 1998, marking the beginning of her instrumental work in empowering girls with disabilities. Her efforts extended to the establishment of the Alesrar NGO for youth development in 2006, further emphasizing her commitment to promoting volunteerism and support for individuals with disabilities.Her remarkable contributions did not go unnoticed, as evidenced by the recognition she received, including the esteemed "Woman of Courage" honor from the American embassy in Yemen in 2007 and the posthumous awarding of the Balquis Award in 2013. Despite her untimely passing in 2012, Jamala al-Baidhani's legacy continues to inspire and uplift, leaving an indelible mark on the advancement of women and disabled individuals in Yemen.
