Josephus C. Vines (1873-1964) was an American politician and former mayor of Brighton, Alabama, known for his involvement with the Prohibition Party. Born in Jefferson County, Alabama, Vines married four times and had seven children. He also held a teaching certificate and served as the mayor of Brighton for multiple terms during the early 1900s.Vines faced legal trouble in 1955 after accidentally shooting and killing Tim Scott, a bookkeeper, in Orlando, Florida. Despite pleading innocent to charges of first-degree murder, a civil suit was filed against him by Scott's wife. However, Vines was not indicted by the Orange County Circuit Court Grand Jury and was later involved in a truck accident that led to hospitalization for a possible heart condition.Following a tumultuous life, Josephus C. Vines passed away in Orlando, Florida in 1964. His legacy remains a subject of interest for those studying American political history.

Josephus Somerville Irvine (1819–1876) was a prominent figure in the Texas Revolution and the American Civil War, known for his leadership and participation in various battles. Born in Lawrence County, Tennessee, on August 25, 1819, he moved to Texas in 1830 and later actively engaged in the Texas Revolution, serving in the Texas Army under notable commanders such as Benjamin Franklin Bryant and Sidney Sherman.
