Kian (喜安, 20 January 1566 – 10 August 1653) was a renowned Japanese tea master and priest active in the Ryukyu Kingdom. Known for his diary, the Kian Nikki (喜安日記), which documented the 1609 Invasion of Ryukyu, Kian was born in Sakai, Izumi Province, Japan, and studied tea ceremony under Kōin (康印), a disciple of Sen no Rikyū. He also delved into Waka and Classical Chinese poetry. At the age of 35, Kian moved to Ryukyu, where he gained widespread recognition and was appointed Chamberlain of the palace, adopting the Chinese style surname, Bin (閔).
