Kirstine Bjerrum Meyer (12 October 1861 – 28 September 1941) was a pioneering Danish physicist and the first woman from Denmark to achieve a doctorate in natural sciences. Born in Skærbæk, Denmark, she later moved to Copenhagen to pursue her studies at the University of Copenhagen. Meyer married mathematician Adolph Constantin Meyer in 1885 and continued her academic pursuits after his passing in 1896, becoming the sole parent of their son Johannes. She received her Ph.D. in physics in 1909, making history as the first Danish woman to achieve this honor. Meyer was also a high school teacher and the founder of Fysisk Tidsskrift, the Danish journal of physics. In 1925, she was honored with the Tagea Brandt Rejselegat travel scholarship. Her significant contributions to the field of physics were recognized with prestigious awards, including the Scientific Society Gold Medal in 1899 and the Gold Medal of Merit in 1920.
