Koree First Name Meaning

Koree is a gender-neutral name of Irish origin, meaning "Hollow." It was the name of a significant "K-class" ferry on Sydney Harbour, built in 1902 by Sydney Ferries Limited. The vessel was part of the company's extensive fleet, which played a crucial role in cross-harbour travel before the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. Koree was known for its innovative design, being the first ferry on Sydney Harbour to feature closed upper decks with sash windows, and the inclusion of electric lighting, a relatively new feature at the time. The name "Koree" is thought to be an indigenous Australian Aboriginal word for Chowder Bay. Despite its historical significance, the ferry was eventually retired from service in 1934.
