Linus M. Nickerson

Linus May Nickerson (June 22, 1823 – September 12, 1888) was a Methodist minister, chaplain of the 122nd New York Infantry, and Indian Agent in Lake County, Oregon. He was born in rural Tompkins County, New York, and married Hylena Alnora Knowles in 1851. Nickerson served as a Methodist minister in New York and later became the Chaplain of the 122nd New York Infantry during the Civil War. After the war, he taught African-Americans in Fairfax County, Virginia, and was elected as a Republican delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1868. He then moved to Oregon, where he served as the superintendent of farming at the Klamath Indian agency and later became the Indian Agent for the Klamath and related indigenous people.
