Boyd worked as a maid and babysitter for songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin, who penned "The Loco-Motion" for her. The song soared to the top of the charts, selling over a million copies. Despite this success, Boyd was typecast as a dance-craze singer and received limited material. Her commercial appeal waned after 1964, leading to her retirement from the music industry in 1971. Battling financial difficulties, she returned to North Carolina and lived in obscurity.
