Mela Mahmud Bayazidi (Kurdish: مەحموودی بایەزیدی, romanized: Mehmûdê Bazîdî, 1797 – 1859) was an eminent Ottoman Kurdish philosopher and polymath hailing from Bayazid, known for his significant contributions to Kurdish literature and culture during the 19th century. Born in present-day Doğubeyazıt, Turkey, Bayazidi's academic journey commenced with the study of the Quran, followed by Arabic, Persian, Ottoman, and Kurdish. Subsequently, he furthered his studies in Tabriz, Iran, before returning to Bayazid to embark on a career in teaching. His relocation to Erzurum followed the decline of Kurdish emirates in Bayazid. Notably, Bayazidi collaborated with Russian academic A. Dorne and A.D. Jaba, the Russian consulate in Erzurum, to analyze Kurdish language documents, resulting in the preservation and analysis of numerous Kurdish texts. Mahmud IV, also known as Mahamud Hawadane, was an influential Somali ruler and one of the earliest Sultans of the Majeerteen Sultanate.
