Mariko Peters

Mariko Peters, born on April 22, 1969, in Berkeley, California, United States, is a former Dutch politician, civil servant, and lawyer. She served as a Member of Parliament from November 30, 2006, to September 19, 2012, with a focus on foreign policy, judiciary, public administration, mass media, and culture. Her diverse educational background includes studying law at the University of Leiden, Japanese Literature and Law at the University of Kyoto and the International Christian University, and obtaining a LL.M. degree at the Columbia University School of Law. After a successful career in law, she turned to human rights, working as a human rights lawyer at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She also served as a policy advisor for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as an advisor for the Afghan minister of Foreign Affairs. Mariko Peters was a member of the GreenLeft party and was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 and re-elected for a second term in 2010.
