SIGN UPMauli is a male name of Hawaiian origin that means "Dark-Skinned." It was the name of a dynasty of kings that ruled the Bhumi Malayu or Dharmasraya kingdom in Sumatra from the 11th to the 14th century. Most Mauli kings were Mahayana—Vajrayana Buddhists. The dynasty emerged after the fall of the Sailendra dynasty that ruled Srivijaya, following the Chola invasion in 1025. The family was once a member of the Srivijayan mandala and later rose to power to rule the former Srivijayan mandala, which included Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula. The dynasty's capital shifted from Muaro Jambi to Dharmasraya and then to Pagaruyung in present-day West Sumatra province. This rich history adds depth and significance to the name Mauli, reflecting strength and a connection to the heritage of Hawaiian and Indonesian cultures.
