The Melbourne Vixens is an Australian professional netball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. They have represented Netball Victoria in the Suncorp Super Netball since 2017, and previously played in the ANZ Championship between 2008 and 2016. The team was formed in 2007 through the merger of Melbourne Phoenix and Melbourne Kestrels. Throughout their history, the Vixens have achieved significant success, winning three premierships in 2009, 2014, and 2020. Notable players such as Bianca Chatfield, Sharelle McMahon, Madison Browne, Julie Corletto, and Geva Mentor have contributed to the team's achievements. The Vixens have also produced award-winning players, with several members being named in the Team of the Year and receiving individual accolades. Their home venue is primarily John Cain Arena, with Margaret Court Arena serving as their secondary venue since 2015. The Vixens have had strong international representation, with players from Australia, England, Jamaica, Malawi, and South Africa. Under the leadership of head coach Simone McKinnis, the Vixens have demonstrated a competitive edge, with their triumphs and achievements making them a formidable force in Australian netball.

Melbourne Inman (15 July 1878 – 11 August 1951) was a renowned figure in the world of billiards, achieving the title of World Billiards Champion multiple times. His exceptional skills and dominance in the sport led to him being crowned as the champion in 1908, 1909, 1912, 1913, 1914, and 1919. Notably, in 1914, he secured a significant victory against Willie Hoppe. In addition to his success in billiards, Inman also participated in the 1927 World Snooker Championship, displaying his versatility in cue sports. His remarkable career came to a close when he passed away at the age of 73 in Farnborough on 11 August 1951. Melbourne Haddock Ford (June 30, 1849 – April 20, 1891) was an influential American politician from Michigan. Born in Salem, Michigan, he later moved to Lansing with his parents. Ford had a diverse educational background, attending common schools and the Michigan State College of Agriculture. His career took a military turn when he enlisted in the United States Navy and was appointed a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. However, he ultimately chose to pursue law and was admitted to the bar in 1878. Ford's political journey began when he became a member of the Michigan House of Representatives and later served as a Democrat from Michigan's 5th congressional district in the 50th United States Congress. Although his life was tragically cut short, his impact was significant, as evidenced by his election to the 52nd Congress shortly before his passing. Melbourne Haddock Ford's legacy lives on, and he is interred in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Melbourne Tierney (3 December 1923 – 27 November 2014) was a prominent Welsh professional rugby league footballer known for his remarkable career in the 1940s and 1950s. Hailing from Tumble, Carmarthenshire, Wales, Tierney began his journey with the Tumble RFC and later transitioned to professional rugby after the 1946 West Wales Cup final against Amman United RFC. He achieved significant milestones in his career, representing Wales at the international level and showcasing his skills at Belle Vue Rangers and Rochdale Hornets. Sir Melbourne McTaggart Tait (May 20, 1842 – February 19, 1917) was a distinguished Canadian lawyer and judge. He completed his education at St Francis College and McGill University, earning a Bachelor of Civil Law degree in 1862. After being called to the Bar in 1863, he established himself as a reputable legal professional, eventually being appointed as a Queen's Counsel in 1882. Tait's career saw him serve as President of the Montreal Garrick Club and practice law in Melbourne before relocating to Montreal in 1870. In 1887, he ascended to the judicial Bench in the Province of Quebec and later became the chief justice of the Superior Court in the district of Montreal in 1894. Notably, he was knighted as a Knight Bachelor at Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1897. Tait also played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Royal Victoria Hospital, a Children's Hospital in Montreal, in 1903. His family life was equally notable, with his wife, Lily M. Kaighn, being an accomplished actress, and his sons, Melbourne MaGill Tait and Thomas James Tait, achieving success in their own respective fields.
