Messiah is a male name of English origin meaning "Anointed One". In Abrahamic religions, a messiah is a savior or liberator of a group of people. In Judaism, the Messiah is a future Jewish king from the Davidic line, who will be anointed with holy oil and rule during the Messianic Age. Christians commonly refer to Jesus of Nazareth as the "Christ" or "Messiah", believing that he fulfilled some messianic prophecies and will return for a second coming. In Islam, Jesus is held to be a prophet and the Messiah sent to the Israelites, who will return at the end of times. In the Ahmadiyya theology, the terms Messiah and Mahdi are believed to be fulfilled in Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement.
