Michal Cole, also known as מיכל קול, is a British-Israeli artist born in Haifa, Israel, in 1974 to parents who emigrated from Morocco. She is known for her diverse artistic expressions, ranging from photography, video, tapestry, sculpture, to watercolor, and her unique use of money in her works. After serving in the Israeli Defence Forces, Michal pursued her passion for art, first in Paris, and later in London, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design and later her Master of Art in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts at the University of the Arts London in 2013.In her artistic career, Michal Cole has showcased her talents through various mediums. She uses textiles to reference famous art pieces, incorporating contemporary interpretations and societal reflections. Her installation art, such as "Mute-Ululation" and "Objection," explores themes of cultural identity, women empowerment, and social issues. Notably, her work "Top Gun" exhibited at the 2017 Venice Biennale's Pavilion of Humanity, made of men’s ties, serves as a powerful commentary on gender oppression and personal inequalities, drawing attention to issues like the gender pay gap and sexual harassment.Michal Cole's art not only showcases her creativity but also serves as a platform for thought-provoking social commentary, making her a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene.
