Milen Dobrev

Milen Atanasov Dobrev was a Bulgarian weightlifter born on February 22, 1980, in the village of Zhitnitsa, Plovdiv Province, Bulgaria. He began his weightlifting career in 1991 and quickly proved to be a promising talent. Dobrev achieved significant success in his youth, winning medals at international competitions. His senior career was marked by numerous accolades, including gold medals at the European and World Championships and a historic Olympic gold at the Athens 2004 Olympic games. Dobrev's outstanding performance made him the first Bulgarian to win an Olympic title in weightlifting. He was honored as an honorary citizen of both Plovdiv and Athens for his remarkable achievements. Tragically, Dobrev passed away from a heart attack in his home in Plovdiv in 2015 at the age of 35. Throughout his career, he collected 4 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals in 10 major senior competitions. Milen Dobrev's legacy continues to be celebrated in the world of weightlifting.
