Elmira married Daniel Vance II, a farmer and innkeeper, and together they had eight children, including the notable Zebulon Vance and Robert B. Vance. Following her husband's untimely death, Elmira had to auction off some of his property, including eleven slaves, but she bought back one slave, Venus, for one dollar.
