She gained prominence as a principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre, where she dedicated twenty-four years of her career. Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Herrera commenced her ballet training at the age of seven under the tutelage of Olga Ferri. Her exceptional talent led her to win numerous competitions in South America, and she further honed her skills at the Minsk Ballet School in what is now Belarus. Herrera's stellar reputation attracted the attention of Natalia Makarova, who invited her to study at the English National Ballet in London.
