Jean-Baptiste Perrin, a prominent figure in hydrodynamics, is renowned for his groundbreaking work on the Perrin friction factors. These factors are pivotal in adjusting the translational and rotational friction of rigid spheroids in comparison to spheres of the same volume. Spheroids, which are essentially ellipsoids of revolution, are characterized by their axial ratio, denoted as p = (a/b), where a represents the axial semiaxis and b the equatorial semiaxis. In prolate spheroids, p > 1, while in oblate spheroids, p < 1. The Perrin S factor, a crucial component in the equations related to spheroids, is defined differently for prolate and oblate spheroids, as well as for spheres.
