Robertson's dedication to humanitarian efforts led her to join the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St John during her travels in Britain at the onset of World War I. Upon her return to Australia, she assumed the role of Secretary to the council of the Australian Branch of the British (Australian) Red Cross Society, working closely with Lady Helen Munro Ferguson, wife of the governor-general.
