Born in the Bronx, New York City, she pursued her education at New York University and City College, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. Henderson-Holmes had a diverse career, working as a physical therapist at Harlem Hospital and holding teaching positions at various colleges and universities. She was an active participant in initiatives such as Poets and Writers and Art Against Apartheid.Henderson-Holmes received recognition for her impactful poetry, receiving awards such as the William Carlos Williams Award for her collection "Madness and a Bit of Hope" and a fellowship from the New York Foundation of the Arts.
