Bordered by the Sierra de Abodi, a section of the Western Pyrenees, the valley offers stunning natural landscapes and is home to a popular ski resort in Abodi. The valley's name has historical significance, with its first mention dating back to documents of the Monastery of Leire in 924. The local Basque dialect, Salazarese, was traditionally spoken, but Spanish has become more prevalent among the population.
