Shary Boyle, born on May 26, 1972, is a contemporary Canadian visual artist known for her work in sculpture, ceramics, drawing, painting, and performance art. She grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, and attended Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts, where she studied art and music theatre. Boyle later pursued post-secondary studies at the Ontario College of Art, graduating in 1994. Her early interest in music and performance led her to explore costume design, poster and T-shirt design, and the creation of 'zines. Boyle's art practice expanded to include drawing, painting, and illustration, and from 1998 to 2006, she developed her skills in working with synthetic polymer clay and porcelain.Boyle's work is characterized by its representational and narrative symbolism, exploring themes of gender, identity, sexuality, power, and class. She is particularly acclaimed for her porcelain sculptures that challenge historical gender relationships and the boundaries between 'low' and 'high' art. Throughout her career, Boyle has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including showcasing her work at the Venice Biennale in 2013 and participating in collaborative projects with other artists.
