Spencer Wood Caldwell (1909 – December 10, 1983) was a pioneering figure in Canadian broadcasting and the visionary founder of CTV. His notable accomplishments include managing the Dominion Network and establishing S.W. Caldwell Ltd., a prominent TV and radio program and equipment distributor. Caldwell also founded an advertising agency aimed at airing Canadian advertisements during the broadcasting of CBS TV show Westinghouse Playhouse. Despite being initially rejected for a television station license, Caldwell persisted and successfully obtained a license to establish Canada's first private television network, CTV. He served as the network's first President and was posthumously honored with induction into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Tragically, Caldwell's life was cut short in a road accident near his home in Caledon, Ontario. His legacy continues to shape the Canadian broadcasting industry.
