Sumitra Bhave, born on 12 January 1943 in Pune, and Sunil Sukthankar, born on 31 May 1966 in Karad, were a renowned Indian filmmaker duo known for their work in Marathi cinema and theatre. Bhave, a prolific writer, and Sukthankar, a Film and Television Institute of India graduate, collaborated on seventeen feature films, over fifty short films, and four TV serials, all scripted by Bhave. Their notable works include "Doghi" (1995), "Dahavi Fa" (2002), "Vastupurush" (2002), "Devrai" (2004), "Astu" (2016), and "Kaasav" (2017), which received national and international accolades. Their film "Kaasav" won the President Golden Lotus National Award at the 64th National Film Awards.Bhave, with a background in sociology and social work, was a dedicated academic and newsreader, while Sukthankar, after his film direction course, joined Bhave as an assistant and later as a collaborator. Their films revolved around social issues and human struggles, earning them critical acclaim and prestigious awards. The duo's contribution to Marathi cinema and theatre has been widely recognized and celebrated.Tragically, Sumitra Bhave passed away on 19 April 2021 due to respiratory failure and lung fibrosis, leaving behind an unfinished legacy of three films
