Tarana is a female name of African - Hausa of Nigeria origin, meaning "Born During The Day." In addition to its significance as a name, Tarana also holds cultural and historical importance. It is a type of composition in Hindustani classical vocal music, characterized by the rendition of certain Persian and Arabic phonemes at a medium or fast pace. This musical form was invented by Amir Khusro and later popularized by singer Amir Khan. The Sikh tenth Guru Gobind Singh also incorporated Tarana into his compositions. The structure of Tarana involves the introduction of a contrasting melody before returning to the main melody, and may include a Persian quatrain. The use of syllables from instruments like sitar or tabla, along with recitation of full compositions within the body of the Tarana, adds depth to this musical tradition.
