Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Si Sunthon, also known as Khun Ying Chan and Khun Ying Muk, are revered Thai heroines celebrated for their pivotal roles in repelling the Burmese Invasion of Thalang (modern Phuket) in 1786. Born in the 18th century on Thalang Island, their father, Chom Rang, was a prominent local leader, and their mother, Masia, claimed descent from a Sultan of Kedah. Khun Ying Chan married Muen Si Phakdi and later Phra Phimol, the governor of Kraburi, bearing several children. Following the Fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, Thalang came under different regimes until the Burmese invasion in 1785. In the face of adversity, Lady Chan, her sister, and their allies organized the local defense, ultimately repelling the invaders after a month-long battle. Their bravery and strategic efforts earned them the honorific titles of Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Si Sunthon from King Rama I. Despite facing hardships and political conflicts, their contributions were recognized and rewarded. Their legacy continues to inspire and symbolize the courageous spirit of Thai resistance against foreign aggression.
