Vander L. Beatty

Vander L. Beatty (February 5, 1941 – August 30, 1990) was an American politician from New York. He served as a member of the New York State Assembly (54th D.) in 1971 and 1972, and later as a member of the New York State Senate from 1973 to 1982, making significant contributions during the 180th to 184th New York State Legislatures. In 1982, he ran in the Democratic primary for Congress in the 12th District but was defeated by Major Owens. Unfortunately, Beatty's political career took a downturn when he attempted to defraud the results of the primary, leading to a conviction and jail sentence. Tragically, he was murdered at his campaign headquarters in Brooklyn on August 30, 1990, while attempting a political comeback. The motive behind his murder was allegedly linked to a judge's refusal to reduce Everett Flournoy's alimony and child support payments, with Flournoy being apprehended after appearing on the television program "America's Most Wanted". Vander L. Beatty's life and political journey left a lasting impact on the political landscape of New York.
