Yuma Taru, also known as 達陸, is a Taiwanese aboriginal (Atayal) artist dedicated to preserving the weaving techniques and traditional culture of the Atayal people. Born in 1963 in Daan Tribe, Miaoli County, Taiwan, she is a descendant of the Atayal from her mother and Han ethnicity from her father. After graduating from National Chung Hsing University, Taru became a Chinese teacher before dedicating herself to the revival of dying Atayal traditional culture. She holds a master's degree from the Textile Research Institute at Fu Jen Catholic University and has conducted extensive field research and established an Atayal Weaving Exhibition. Taru's work has been exhibited internationally, and she has contributed significantly to the revival of Atayal culture through her 50-Year Atayal Culture Revival Project. She has also founded the Lihang Studio, providing women with means to earn a living independently, and has been involved in post-disaster reconstruction and tribal education. Taru's art is a reflection of her commitment to preserving her cultural heritage and promoting the Atayal way of life.
