What is a GEDCOM file?

GEDCOM is a data structure for storing and exchanging genealogical information so that many computer programs can use it. A GEDCOM file can contain information on events such as births, deaths, census records, ship records, marriages, etc.

How can I download my family tree as a GEDCOM file?

Ancestry

Login to your Ancestry.com account and click "Trees"
Click "Tree settings" of a tree that you want to export.
Find "Manage your tree" section and click "Download your GEDCOM file", then click "Export".

MyHeritage

Login to your MyHeritage account and go to Manage Family Trees.
Click "Export to GEDCOM" of a tree that you want to export.

Does it cost anything to download your GEDCOM?
